Cocktails At Raffles
Tuesady - August 8th 2023
After breakfast we took the subway to
Fort Canning Hill, a beautiful park with lush vegetation near downtown Singapore. There we
just strolled through the bautiful park until we reached Fort Canning Centre,
a museum about the history of Singapore, especially about the British
settlements and military fortifications in Fort Canning Park. The muesum was
quite intersting and once we were through, we checked out the rest of that
beautiful park, like Raffles House, Fort Canning Lighthouse or the
underwhelming Fort Canning Tree Tunnel.

Around noon we headed to the
Raffles Hotel to get a
table at the
Long Bar. This luxurious hotel is named after Sir Thomas Stmaford Raffles, the
founder of modern Singapore. According to the hotel the famous Singapore Sling
cocktail was invented here at the hotel's Long Bar. We arrived just in time
when the bar opened and got a nice table. Soon we ordered our first round of
Singapore Sling cocktails. The bar is also famous for the peanuts you get with
your cocktails and dropping the nutshells on the floor. After our second round
of cocktails we left, because we got hungry. We stopped at Zuya, a vegetarian
Restaurant at a nearby shopping centre, for lunch. There we got fried noodles
and a curry with vegan chicken. After lunch we took a walk to Marina Bay to
see the Merlion, a mythical creature with a lion's head and the body of a
fish, that is used as Singapore's mascot. From there we strolled along Clark
Quay back to the subway station of Fort Canning Park.

In the afternoon we stopped in
Chinatown to see the beautiful
Chinese buildings and to check out the narrow streets with their many food
markets, bars and restaurants. However, we only got a pandan cake for later
and don the way back to the hotel we took a break at Starbucks. Back at the
hotel we tried the pandan cake, which was really good, and then we spent the
rest of the afternoon at pool. In the evening we headed one last time to Lau
Pa Sat Hawker Market for dinner. There we had Indian food, got a couple of
drinks and enjoyed our last evening in Singapore.
