Vienna Summer 2012 - Part 1

We love to spend some time in Vienna and so we try to visit Austria's capital city several times a year. Now it was time to go there again. We found a good deal for a new hotel on the internet and on Friday around noon we were on our way to Vienna. The hotel was called Daniel Vienna and opened last fall, so it was very new. Our room was small, but fine and clean. The hotel also offered a restaurant named The Bakery, which sold baked goods, burgers, steaks and of course all kinds of drinks. Our package included breakfast, which was okay, but nothing special. It was served at The Bakery and offered cheese, sausage, smoked salmon, soft boiled eggs, some cereals, bread and rolls.

After the arrival we checked in and got ready for the evening. After a welcome drink at the bar, we met some friends for dinner at a vegetarian restaurant in the inner city. Later we all had a couple of drinks at a bar along the Danube Channel.

Vienna Summer 2012 - Part 2

After breakfast we were on our way to the inner city. Although there is a tram that brings you there, we decided to walk through the beautiful gardens of Belvedere Castle that is located right next to the hotel.

Since it was really hot that day, we returned to our hotel after we had lunch. Back at the hotel, we enjoyed a cold drink in the hotel bar before we took the subway to the Prater Stadium. From there we made a round trip with the Miniature Railway and visited the famous Schweizer House, where we enjoyed a cold beer.

In the evening we drove back into the inner city. We had a wonderful dinner at Yamm!, a vegetarian restaurant, but before we enjoyed a glass of wine at the Vienna Movie Festival in front of the city hall.

On our way back to the hotel we bought some delicious ice cream. After we returned we had another beer in the hotel restaurant.

Vienna Summer 2012 - Part 3

Sunday - August 19th 2012

Like yesterday, we walked into the inner city, because it takes only twenty minutes and as I mentioned before, on the way we passed the beautiful Belvedere Castle. After a stop at Starbucks, we just walked around the inner city and bought more ice cream. In the early afternoon we left Vienna and had a late lunch at our favourite vegetarian restaurant. A few hours of driving later, we returned to Salzburg.

Biking Around Salzburg

Biking Around Salzburg

Today was a federal holiday and since the weather was really nice, we decided to undertake a biking tour around Salzburg. We started our tour in the morning and returned in the early afternoon.

Around noon we reached a small restaurant where we had a short break to enjoy a glass of beer. The restaurant was home to a peacock named Columbus and of course he was the star and every guest took a picture of him. In the beergarden there is a big marble statue of Emperor Karl, who, according to a legend, sleeps inside the mountain range next to Salzburg.
