Tauern Bike Trail II 2021 - Part 1

Tauern Bike Trail

Early June Claudia and I did the first part of the Tauern Bike Trail from Krimml to Salzburg. Unfortunately we didn't have enough time to finish the bike trail towards Passau. So after our themepark tour we decided to get on our bikes again and finish the Tauern Bike Trail. The weather forecast wasn't that great and so due to the rain we left Salzburg later than expected. Our first stop along the way was Oberndorf where we got a cup of coffee and visited the famous Silent Night Chapel.

Soon we reached Upper Austria and followed the Salzach River towards Burghausen, a small town on the German side of the river. Today we brought our own snacks from home and so we stopped several times along the way to eat our rolls. After Bughausen the Salzach River flowed into the Inn River, which the bike trail continued to follow towards Braunau.

In Braunau we stayed at Hotel Mayrbräu which was conveniently located near town square with all the restaurants and bars. Check in was quick and soon we could jump under the shower to refresh again. Afterwards we headed out for dinner and it didn't take very long to find a restaurant with vegan options. Claudia ordered the vegan curry and I got the veggie burger at Restaurant Nudelkuchl. Later we just strolled around the little town until we returned to our hotel, where we enjoyed a glass of beer in front of the TV before going to bed.

Tauern Bike Trail II 2021 - Part 2

From Braunau To Passau

Thursday - Ausgust 19th 2021

Today's journey took us from Braunau to Passau in Germany. After breakfast we checked out and hit the road again. Like yesterday the bike trail followed the river most of the time and the scenery was really beautiful. Around noon we arrived in Obernberg am Inn where we got a cup of coffee. There we also stopped at a supermarket to buy snacks for our lunch.

Just outside of Obernberg back at the river we found a quiet spot for our lunch. It was about time, because we were really hungry. After we finished our Radlers, that's beer with lemonade, we continued our tour. Our next stop was the beautiful Abbey Reichersberg with its stunning church and gardens. There was also a nice restaurant with a wonderful beer garden, but Claudia and I just had our Radlers and since we didn't want stop for too long, we were on our way again.

In the afternoon we reached Schärding, where we took another break and got a refreshing drink at the Orangerie Cafe. Then we checked out the beautiful town square and continued our tour towards Passau. The last kilometers offered a fantastic scenery and in the late afternoon we finally arrived in Germany. Before we headed to our hotel, we stopped for a welcome beer at a nice bar directly next to the river. In Passau we stayed at Pension Goldenes Schiff, which was nothing special, but it was okay for one night. Once we checked in, we showered and refreshed for the evening. For dinner we went to Hans Im Glück, one of our favourite burger restaurants, because they offer amazing vegan burgers. Needless to say our burgers tasted great and so did the dessert. Today we were really tired and so we only took a short walk through the city until we returned to our hotel.
