Singapore & Malaysia 2023 - Part 1

Travel Day

Friday - August 4th 2023

Vacation Time! Friday after work we hit the road, drove to Munich Airport and parked the car for the next couple of weeks. After we dropped off our luggage, we bought some snacks for the flight and then we tried to find a restaurant for dinner. We stopped at Cafe Dallmayr for pasta and drinks until it was time for boarding. Our Lufthansa flight towards Singapore had a short delay, because we had to wait for a connecting flight, but finally we departed Munich and our long journey to Singapore started.

Singapore & Malaysia 2023 - Part 2

Arriving In Singapore

Saturday - August 5th 2023

After an uneventful flight we landed at Sigapore's Changi Airport in the late afternoon local time. Once we picked up our luggage we went through immigration and then we were on our way to the famous Jewel, a nature themed shopping and dining complex at Changi Airport. Jewel is best known for the amazing indoor waterfall named The Vortex. We were searching for a restaurant or a bar to grab something to eat, but since it was very crowded, we decided to leave and head to our hotel.

In Singapore we stayed at the Dao by Dorsett Hotel, which was about an hour by metro from the airport near the finicial district. Check in was quick and easy and soon we could refresh in our lovely room. First we checked out the hotel and its fantastic rooftop pool and then we got a welcome beer at the hotel bar. Since we hadn't had dinner yet, we headed out into the city.

By accident we stumbled accross the Lau Pa Sat Food Market, because of the smell of the grilled satay skewers. At first we got a beer and then we searched for vegan and vegetarian options. There were so many Indian food outlets, so I got a dosa filled with potatoes while Claudia had a plain dose with different dips. We enjoyed the realxed atmosphere and got another beer until we returned to our hotel.

Singapore & Malaysia 2023 - Part 3

Marina Bay

Sunday - August 6th 2023

Our first full day in Singapore. Due to the jetlag we got up early and headed downstairs for breakfast and then we got ready for our day day exploring the city. Since it was Sunday we walked through empty and quiet streets to Marina Bay. There we took some pictures of the impressive skyline and checked out the Fullerton Hotel before heading to The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. Our first stop was at Starbucks to get an iced coffee and the we just strolled through the shopping center until we found the entrance to the casino. Getting into the casino was an ordeal thanks to security, but eventually we got in. The casino itself was huge, but underwhelming and without gambling we left and checked out the shops instead. For lunch we stopped at the food court and got smoothies and fried noodles.

After lunch Claudia and I were on our way to Singapore Flyer. We had booked our tickets in advance, but there was no line at all and soon we were able to board our gondola. From the ferris wheel we had an amazing view over Marina Bay and Singapore's skyline. Back on the ground we got ice cream before visiting Gardens by the Bay. We purchased tickets for the Flower Dome, Cloud Forest and OCBC Skyway. Since it was Sunday the domes were a little bit crowded, but it was still okay. Gardens by the Bay were amazing, especially the Flower Dome was fantastic with all its beautiful flowers. After the impressive botanic domes we checked out the OCBC Skyway from where we had a great view on the massive flower trees. In the afternoon we returned to our hotel and relaxed with a couple of beers by the pool before heading out to Lau Pa Sat Food Market for dinner. Today we got delicious Indian food, beers. shaved ice with mango and durian, the most disgusting fruit I had ever tried. Not only did it smell badly, but it tasted terrible as well. After that horrible fruit we went back to our hotel.
