Genting SkyWorlds
Friday - August 18th 2023
Today it was finally time to visit the
Genting SkyWorlds
themepark. I wanted to visit that park since it had opened and after breakfast
we were on our way. First we had to catch the resort bus to the Awana SkyWay
Station. From there we had to take a cablecar to Genting Highlands. Once on
top a whole new world opened up. Genting Highlands consists of many hotels,
among them is the world's biggest hotel, shopping malls, casinos, restaurants,
bars and the Genting SkyWorlds themepark. The park didn't open for another
hour and so we stopped at Starbucks for a second breakfast.

Now it was finally time and Genting SkyWorlds opened its gates with a cute
dance show. Once inside we headed to the beautiful Rio area of the park,
themed after the Rio animated movies, because we wanted to do Samba Gliders
first. Next up was Acorn Adventure, a fun but rough rollercoaster, in the
Ice Age land, which was home to a dark ride too. In Ice Age - Expedition
Thin Ice we followed Sid and the gang through ice caverns rescuing the lost
children. Then we just walked around the park and checked out Andromeda
Base. There we did the Terraform Tower Challenge, a fantastic free fall
attraction, before taking a look at Robot Rivet Town. That area is based on
the Robot animated movies, which we didn't see, and the attractions didn't
appeal to us, so we got a donut instead.

Now we were in Liberty Lane to experience one of the highlights of the park.
Invasion of the Planet of the Apes was an amazing trackless darkride, which
turned out to be our favourite attraction at Genting Skyworlds. It wasn't
necessary to see the movies, because the ride worked perfectly on its own.
Since we wanted to scratch off all major rides from our list before noon, we
headed to the Epic area of the park to ride Epic Voyage to Moonhaven, a
water ride with a dark ride section. Again we hadn't seen the movie, but the
ride itself was okay and to our surprise we got really wet during the big
drop. To dry up again, we decided to take a break and get a drink, but not
before we rode Night at the Museum - Midnight Mayhem, a shooting dark ride
similar to Disney's Toy Story Mania.

Since it was already noon, we stopped at a nice outdoor bar and got some beers
and snacks, like onion rings and nachos. After our break I tried two flat
rides, first the ESD Global Defender, themed to Independence Day, in Liberty
Lane and then Alpha Fighter Pilots in Andromeda Base. We also strolled through
Eagle Mountain, another area of the park that looked really beautiful, but
unfortunately the main attraction hadn't opened yet. The rest of the afternoon
we spent with riding the Blue Sky Carousel, doing the Rio Carnaval Chaos
demolition derby and checking out the merchandise in the shops before leaving
the park. Genting Skyworld was a wonderful and beautiful themepark. Although
it was a smaller park we had a lot of fun and enjoyed our time there a lot.

After we left the park, Claudia wanted to see the Durian Festival that was
held outside the huge hotel and casino complex. The smell of the fruits was
terrifying and I was really happy when we left and did some shopping in the
huge shopping mall. For dinner we went to Malaysian Food Street, a nice food
court, where they also had a vegan restaurant called Vegetalk. We got vegan
fried chicken rice, fried noodles and a dumpling soup. All three meals were
delicious. Afterwards we spent some time at the indoor themepark
Skytropolis,
but we didn't ride any attractions. Before leaving Genting Highlands we got
ice cream and just strolled around until we caught the cable car back to the
hotel, where we enjoyed a relaxing evening watching TV.
