London 2023/24 - Part 3

New Year's Eve

Sunday - December 31st 2023

Like yesterday our first stop was at Lockdown Cafe, where we got a cup of coffee to go and then we took the train to Waterloo Station. There we got sandwiches at MS for breakfast before starting our walking tour towards Buckingham Palace. Changing of the guards was about to start soon and so the whole area was packed with tourists. So we stopped at Starbucks instaed and enjoyed a cup of coffee while it started to rain outside. When the rain stopped we strolled down Piccadilly Street to Fortnum & Mason, but unfortunately they didn't open before noon. We continued our tour to The White Horse pub, where we got a couple of beers while waiting for our lunch reservation.

For lunch we had a reservation at Mildreds, a plant based restaurant. Claudia and I both ordered a burger with fries, which was delicious. In the afternoon we just strolled around Piccadilly Street, checked out Whole Foods Market for snacks and bought some sweets and jam at Fortnum & Mason before walking back to Waterloo Station. Unfortunately it started to rain again and so we decided to take the train back to Wandsworth. At MS we bought sandwiches for later and back in the hotel we rested a little bit before we spent the evening at The Alma pub. Once the pub got too crowded we left and headed to McDonald's for McFlurrys. Back in our room we had a room picnic with our sandwiches and enjoyed a relaxing New Year's Eve drinking beer and watching TV.

London 2023/24 - Part 4

New Year's Day

 

Monday - January 1st 2024

 

The good thing about not celebrating New Year's Eve was that we got up early and had the quiet city to our own. First we got coffee at Lockdown Bakery and then we took the train to Waterloo Station, where we got crispy empanada sticks for breakfast. Afterwards we walked along the River Thamse to Tate Modern to check out what the museum had to offer. Not a lot changed since last year and so we continued our walking tour to Leadenhall Market.

Leadenhall Market looked gorgeous and to our surprise a small pub was open and needless to say we had to get a couple of beers to celebrate the new year. Since no shops were open, we headed to the nearest tube station and took the metro to Oxford Street to do some shopping. In the afternoon we had a lunch reservation at the Hard Rock Cafe Piccadilly Circus. Claudia ordered the nachos while I got the veggie burger. Unfortunately the food was a little bit underwhelming, but we still had a nice time there crossing off another Hard Rock Cafe location from our list. Afterwards we took the train back to Wandsworth and spent the rest of the evening at The Alma pub before having a late dinner with veggie burgers at McDonald's. Back at the hotel we packed our luggage for tomorrow and watched TV.

Tuesday - January 2nd 2024

Today we had to get up pretty early to cathc our flight back home. After we checked out, we took the train into the city and from there to Gatwick Airport. There we had a coffee at Starbucks and a sandwich for breakfast before departure. Around noon we arrived in Salzburg and spent a relaxing day at home.
