Hamburg 2017 - Part 2

Harbour Cruise

Saturday - June 3rd 2017

Unfortunately the weather wasn't very good today, but we still got up early, because we had planned to do a Hamburg harbour cruise. Atfter breakfast at the hotel we walked to the so called Landungsbrücken and booked the tour. The tour lasted for about one hour and a half and took us to the UNESCO world heritage site Speicherstadt and from there to the container terminals and back to the Landungsbrücken. Claudia and I did the tour already last year, but it was still very enjoyable.

Back at the Landungsbrücken we got a hot cup of coffee to escape the rain and warm up again. Afterwards we took Claudia's parents to the Elbe Tunnel, that runs under the river and connects St. Pauli with the harbour area. The tunnel is about 100 years old and even cars can use it. Since it was already around noon we took the subway to Peter Pane Burgergrill. Some delicious vegan burger later, the sun came out again and so we took a walk to the Sternschanze district, a very modern area known for shopping and many bars and restaurants. The rest of the afternoon we spent at the famous Reeperbahn where we got some drinks and enjoyed the warm weather. Afterwards we walked along the river Elbe to the Elbphilharmonie building and for dinner Claudia and I went to Loving Hut again, because it was very good and conveniently located near our hotel. Later we met with Claudia's parents at the hotel bar again and ordered some drinks until it was time to call it a day.

Hamburg 2017 - Part 3

The Lion King Musical

Sunday - June 4th 2017

Today we had to get up early again, because we had booked a very early time slot for the popular Miniaturwunderland located at the Speicherstadt. Miniatur Wunderland is the world's biggest model train attraction and so the crowds are huge throughout the day. Since we visited the Miniatur Wunderland already last year and were impressed, we had to see it again with Claudia's parents too. After we spent several hours there we had an early lunch at Vapiano until we were on our way back to the Landungsbrücken to catch the boat to the Lion King Musical theatre.

Claudia and I saw the musical already during our visit in 2016 and enjoyed every minute of it. So it was a given that we had to see it again. From the Landungsbrücken we took the boat to the theatre and since we arrived early we got some drinks at the lovely bar until the show started. After another fantastic performance we walked to the Elbtunnel and back to the hotel. There we relaxed a bit and then we had dinner at Cafe Miller near the hotel.
