Exploring Singapore
Monday - August 7th 2023
Today after breakfast we headed out into the city and took the subway to
Singapore's Kampong Gelam district, where we planned to visit the Sultan
Mosque. When we arrived the mosque was still closed and so we checked out the
surrounding neighbourhood with the many little shops. Once the mosque opened
and we were able to take a look inside. Since there wasn't much else to see,
we left again and searched for the next Starbucks to get a refreshing iced
coffee. It wasn't noon yet, but it was already so hot outside so that the air
conditioned shopping center with the Starbucks was a nice welcome.

After our coffe break we decided to check out Little India, one of
Singapore's most colourful and historical districts. Once we got off the
subway, we walked straight to the first temple and were amazed by colourful
building. Unfortunately the temple was about to closed and so we didn't have
a lot of time to explore. Then we just strolled around Little India, but
that was rather disappointing and so we stopped at a lovely Indian
restaurant right next to the house of Tan Teng Niah for a glass of beer to
escape the heat. Soon we got hungry as well and ordered vegetable biryani
for lunch.

In the afternoon we visited Orchard Road, Singapore's famous shopping
street. First we stopped at the Hard Rock Cafe for drinks and an ice cream
cake before checking out the huge shopping centers along the way. Afterwards
we took the subway back to our hotel and spent the rest of the afternoon
relaxing by the pool. In the evening we had dinner at Lau Pa Sat Food Market
again. Today we got Indian dosa and vegan chicken with rice. After dinner we
walked to Marina Bay to see the lights and fountain show.
