We Are Going On A Disney Cruise
Saturday - January 17th 2015
Today the second part of our honeymoon started, but not before noon. So we used the morning to take the boat from the Port Orleans Riverside to Downtown Disney. Unfortnately we missed the first one and so we decided to walk to the Port Orleans French Quarter and take the boat from there. The French Quarter, the Riverside's sister resort, looked also nice and beautiful. After a short boat ride, we arrived at Downtown Disney and got a coffee at Starbucks. Since we didn't have so much time, we took the next boat
back to the Riverside, from where the Disney Cruise Line Bus picked us
up.

Back at the hotel, the
Disney Cruise Line contact person was already waiting. She checked our travel documents and half an hour later we were on the bus to Disney's cruise line terminal at Port Canaveral. The drive took about an hour.

Cruise Itiniary:
For our honeymoon we chose a Disney cruise to the
Eastern Caribbean. The ship embarked from
Port Canaveral on Saturday, then we had two days at sea. On Tuesday we were in
Sint Maarten and Wednesday's port of call was
San Juan in Puerto Rico. After another day at sea we spent Friday on Disney's private island
Castaway Cay in the Bahamas.

The Ship:
Disney operates four ships, two big ones and two smaller ones. We chose the
Disney Fantasy, the newest and biggest ship in Disney's fleet. The Fantasy was launched in 2012 and was built by the Meyer Werft in Germany. Like her sister ship, the Disney Dream, the Fantasy is 340m long, 42m broad, has a height of 66m or 16 decks.

On board there are three restaurants,
Royal Court,
Animator's Palate and
Enchanted Garden. Additionally there are two fine dining restaurants,
Palo and
Remy. While Palo serves Italian food, Remy is a French restaurant themed after Pixar's movie Ratatouille. Both restaurants are only for adults and require an extra fee. There are also many bars and lounges throughout the ship, but the main nighttime entertainment area is the Europa district and includes the
Skyline Lounge,
La Piazza,
Ooh La La,
O'Gills Pub and
The Tube. For entertainment there are the
Walt Disney Theatre for stage shows and the
Buena Vista Theatre for movies. Of course the ship offers a lot for kids too, but since we don't have any, we didn't check theses areas out.

When we arrived at the cruise terminal, we had to go through security first. Then we had to do the check in, which was quick and easy. Soon we were on board the ship and went straight to our
cabin. Our cabin was on deck 6 and was quite big. We knew that the cabins on the Disney ships are bigger, but we were surprised about all the space we had. The cabin featured a verandah and was equipped with a fridge and a TV system that offered many movies on demand. We also liked that the bathroom and the restroom were seperated.

After we refreshed a bit, Claudia was attending the
food session, while I was walking around the ship to get to know it. Before the
Sail Away Party started on the sundeck, we had a late lunch at
Cabanas,
the ship's buffet style restaurant. Finally it was time to leave the
port and with a beer in our hands we watched the Sail Away Party and
spent the rest of the afternoon on the sun deck in the adults only area.
We also purchased the Disney Cruise Line Beer Mug, which meant we got a
big beer for the price of the regular one.

Claudia and I booked the second seating at 8:30pm for dinner and so we
had to watch the shows at 6:15pm. The first show was called A
Fantasy Come True and it was presented in the Walt Disney Theatre, like all other
shows and musicals during the rest of the week. This stage show was about what to
expect from a Disney cruise. It was a nice little show, but nothing special.

As already mentioned, there are three restaurants on board and each day we ate in a different one. Today's dinner was served at the Royal Court Restaurant and Claudia and I
got something special prepared, an Indian Dal dish with rice and vegan
ice cream with cookies for dessert. We spent the rest of the evening
walking around the ship and later we enjoyed some cocktails at the
Bon Voyage Bar.
