The Walt Disney Family Museum
Sunday - May 29th 2016
As you may noticed, or may not noticed, we are big Disney fans, so it was for
sure that we had to visit the
Walt Disney Family Museum located
in the Presidio of San Francisco. After a cup of coffee we were on our way. We
took the bus to the California Palace of the Fine Arts, a beautiful building
that was constructed for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915.
Since the museum didn't open before 10:00 o'clock, we had plenty of time. So
we made tons of pictures of that great building and then we headed to the
Crissy Field for a better look at the famous Golden Gate Bridge. There we took
a walk towards the bridge, but soon we turned around and went to the Presidio.
On the way to the Disney Family Museum we stopped at the
Lucasfilm
headquarter to see the Yoda Fountain. As a Star Wars and Disney fan I just had
to stop there. Finally we arrived at the Walt Disney Museum. The lines were
short and since we purchased our tickets online, we were inside quickly. The
exhibition was very interesting and only about Walt Disney's life and not
about the history of the Walt Disney Company. I just wish that the museum
would have been more critical about Walt Disney, but given the fact, that it
is run by the Disney Family, I couldn't have expected that. Nonetheless it was
worth the admission and I would definitely visit again.

At the
Presidio there was a
picnic with food trucks and after our visit to the museum we got some beers
and waffles. The whole picnic was so cool and relaxing, so that we would have
liked to stay longer, but soon we took the bus back into the city, because we
wanted to go to the Lombard Street. After we got off the bus, we walked by a
restaurant and bar with a huge
Stiegl Beer flagg in front. We
were curious and so we headed inside. It turned it out to be an Austrian
restaurant called
Gasthaus Leopold. Of course we had to get an ice cold Stiegl Beer from home. To my surprise
there was also a scarf from my favourite soccer team,
FC Red Bull Salzburg, on the wall. Even in San Francisco there are Red Bull fans. Great! After a
delicious beer, we walked to Lombard Street, which was already packed with
tourists. A few pictures later, we headed to the bus station and drove back to
our hotel, since we wanted to spend the evening at the SoMa Streatfood Park
again. Unfortunately on Sunday the park closed early and so we got pita,
hummus, vegetables, spreads and other snacks from Trader Joe's and had our own
picnic in our hotel room while watching a cheesy movie called The Intern and
enjoying some beers.
