Palm Springs
Monday - June 6th 2016
Today we left Los Angeles and drove east to
Palm Springs. The main reason for visiting Palm Springs was the architecture, and while
there were some great buildings from the 1950s, my must see attraction, Marily
Monroe, wasn't there. Unfortunately the famous
Forever Marilyn
by Seward Johnson is currently on display in New Jersey. However we still
wanted to go to Palm Springs to see the desert. So after we got coffee at
Starbucks we were on our way and around noon we arrived in the small but
lovely Palm Springs. Our first stop was the original
Native Foods Cafe, a vegan restaurant which we already knew from Chicago, for lunch.

Afterwards we drove to our motel. Since we were very happy with the Knights
Inn in Anaheim, we decided to stay at the
Knights Inn Palm Springs. The motel was a bit outside of downtown, but we had a car, so that didn't
matter in the least. Our room was nice and clean and it looked like it was
refurbished recently. We enjoyed our stay there a lot, and the hotel even
offered a pool.

In the afternoon we headed into downtown and were insane enough to take a walk
through the town in the heat. The temperature was over 40° Celsius, in the
shade. But at least we weren't the only ones. After a stop at Starbucks for
iced coffee, we got vegan ice cream at Ben & Jerry's and later we had some
ice cold beers at a lovely outdoor bar on main street. In the evening we had
dinner at Native Foods Cafe again and then we drove out into the desert. What
a beautiful landscape, especially during sundawn.
