Pittsburgh 2007 - Part 1

Going To Pittsburgh

Of course we wanted to see more of the United States than just Bowling Green and so together with some friends we chose Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as our first destination. At the end of August we had a long weekend, because there was a day off, due to a national holiday. I think it was Labor Day.

Thursday afternoon, after classes were over, we picked up our rental car and then we were on our way to Pennsylvania. We arrived around 9pm at our motel a little bit outside the city. It was for the first time that we stayed in an American Motel, but we had a nice and clean room.

On the next day after breakfast, we just had coffee and donuts, we drove into the city. We parked our car near Station Square and from there we took the incline on to Mount Washington from where you have a fantastic view over Pittsburgh.

Afterwards it was around noon and we were already a bit hungry, we had lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe. It was the first time for us to be at a Hard Rock Cafe and since then it became a tradition to visit every Hard Rock Cafe when away. The food was really fine, we both ordered the best veggie burger we have ever had.

We spent the afternoon with sightseeing in the city, before we returned to our motel to rest a bit. Pittsburgh is a wonderful city and we enjoyed it there a lot, although there wasn't that much to do, so we just walked around the city and did some shopping.

In the evening we drove back to the city and together with our friends we had dinner at Hooters. At first we didn't know if we should try it, but over here we don't have these restaurants and since we have heared a lot about Hooters, we decided to give it a try. The food was okay, but nothing special. But it's not the food why you go there :-).

We spent the rest of the evening at the Station Square Center and enjoyed some drinks at Bar Louie, where we met a fellow Austrian who moved to Pittsburgh many years ago. Before we returned to our hotel we drove back on to Mount Washington to see what Pittsburgh looks like during night.
