Canada & USA 2017 - Part 5

Niagara Falls

Thursday - September 14th 2017

After three days in Toronto it was time to say goodbye. Once we packed our stuff and had breakfast we hit the road and drove to Niagara Falls. We had already been there ten years ago, but I didn't remember that the village of Niagara Falls Canada was so tacky with all those ugly attractions, like wax figures, and souvenir shops. It looked like a very cheap amusement park. Since we came to see the waterfalls, we didn't care about that. Luckily the crowds were really low and soon we got our tickets for the Niagara Falls boat tour. The Maid of the Mist is now departing from the US side, that's why had to use the Hornblower Niagara Cruises and got red ponchos instead of the famous blue ones. The boat tour was as great as in 2007 and this time we even got more wet. After the boat tour we enjoyed a snack and a drink at the Hard Rock Cafe before we walked to the Niagara Falls visitors center to see the Horseshoe Fall up close.

In the early afternoon we drove to St. Catherines, a small town near Niagara Falls to have lunch at a vegan restaurant called Rise Above. After a delicious lunch we just strolled around this lovely small town and bought some vegan doughnuts at a nearby vegan bakery. Then it was time to leave Canada and return to the US. To our surprise border control was by quickly and easily and soon we checked in into our hotel For the night we stayed at the Hampton Inn in Niagara Falls USA. After we refreshed we took a little walk around the city, which definitely had seen better times. Since there wasn't much to do, we got some beers at the Hard Rock Cafe. Later, after sundown, we headed to the Niagara Falls Park to see the illuminated falls and then we returned to the hotel.
