Soller
Thursday - September 19th 2024
Today we planned to take the
Ferrocarril de Soller
from Palma de Mallorca to Soller, a small but beautiful village in the Serra
de Tramuntana. After breakfast we drove to Palma and parked our car near the
train station. We had already booked our ticket in advance and so we were
allowed directly to the train platform. Soon the train departed and we left
the city behind. First the landscape was rather flat and boring, but after a
while the mountain range of the Serra de Tramuntana was ahead of us. Traveling
with that old wooden train from 1912 was really amazing, especially when we
ascended through the mountains towards Soller. The train ride took about an
hour and we arrived in Soller in the late morning.

After we arrived in Soller, we found a small bakery and got a late breakfast
before exploring the beautiful village. From Soller a tram is running to Port
de Soller, but we stayed in Soller although the route was supposed to be very
sceneric as well. Instead we visited the church and strolled around the
village checking out the stores and cafes. We found a lovely cafe, called
Miga de Nube, with a wonderful outdoor sitting area in the backyard. I tried a local
beer, which was quite tasty, and for lunch we ordered two different vegetarian
toasts.

After a delicious lunch we continued exploring Soller. The village was
surrounded by the mountains of the Serra de Tramuntana, which offered a
wonderful scenery. We really enjoyed our time there, but unfortunately it was
so crowded and so we left the touristy areas and did a walk around the village
beyond the beaten track, where it was much more quiet. Later we got ice cream
and then we decided to take the next train back to Palma.

Back in Cala D'Or we stopped at the supermarket and bought some treats to
bring home and then we returned our rental car. Once the paper work was done
someone drove us back to our hotel, where we refreshed and relaxed a bit until
it was time for dinner. Afterwards we went into the village and played a round
of minigolf before getting drinks at Atlantis Bar. Back in the hotel we
enjoyed a beer on the balcony and called it a day.
