London 2022/23 - Part 1

London

Wednesday - December 28th 2022

It became our tradition to travel to London over New Year's Eve, thanks to Covid-19 our London trips in 2020 and 2021 got cancelled. Luckily this year we finally could return to the UK. Since our flight to London departed early morning the next day, we decided to spend the night before at Novotel Munich Airport. After we arrived and checked in at the hotel, we took the metro to the airport and had dinner at McDonalds. Then we checked out the stores before returning to the hotel, where we spent the rest of the evening enjoying a couple of drinks at the hotel bar.

Unfortunately we had to get up pretty early, but once we were through security at the airport, we finally could sit down and enjoy our coffee. Soon we departed on our British airways flight to London, where we arrived about two hours later. From Heathrow Airport we took the Heathrow Express to Paddington Station and from there the metro to Waterloo Station. At MS Food we got two sandwiches and then we had to take another train to Wandsworth Town. Like during our last trips we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Wandworth. The hotel is nothing special, but we really like it there. Our room was already available and after we dropped off our luggage, we headed straight to our favourite pub The Alma to get a welcome beer. After our welcome drink we took a long walk along the River Thames to Battersea Power Station.

Battersea Power Station

Bettersea Power Station underwent a major restoration over the past couple of years when it got transformed into that amazing shopping centre with lots of bars and restaurants. Our first stop was Clean Kitchen, a vegan burger restaurant, and lthough we had to wait nearly an hour to get our food, it was worth the visit, because the food was really good. Afterwards we checked out that stunning building with all its stores as well as the surrounding area. Later we took the metro to Waterloo and the train back to Wandsworth Town where we spent the evening at The Alma.

London 2022/23 - Part 2

London

Friday - December 30th 2022

After breakfast we took the train into the city. Unfortunately the weather wasn't great, but despite the rain we walked along the River Thames to Tate Modern Museum. There we spent a couple of hours checking out all the different exhibitions. Later we wanted to get a coffee at the cafe, however it was so crowded that we decided to head to the next Starbucks behind Tate Modern instead. There it was calm and we got to enjoy a cup of coffee. For lunch we planned to eat at Temple of Seitan in Camden, but on the way we had to stop at Blackfriars Pub for a glass of beer and mulled wine.

Around noon we made it to Temple of Seitan in Camden. We both ordered a burger with a couple of sides like tater tots and mac and cheese. During our last visits we always enjoyed eating there, but this time it was a disappointment. The whole meal was just greasy and didn't taste good at all. After our disappointing lunch we walked along Regents Canal towards Kings Cross Station. On the way we stopped at Coal Drops Yard and browsed through the open shops. Later we took the metro to Piccadilly Circus and just walked around the area before returning to Wandsworth, where we spent the rest of the evening at The Alma.
