Katschberg 2023 - Part 1

Last year Claudia and I spent a couple of days skiing in Katschberg and we liked the ski area a lot and so we decided to go there aigain. This year we stayed the the Boutique Aparthotel Herbert, where we had our own little apartment. Early morning we drove to Katschberg and about two hours later we arrived at our hotel. Check in was quick and we also got to purchase our ski tickets at the reception. First we checked out the apartment, which was really beautiful and spacious. Once we had all of our luggage brought up to the apartment, we headed to the slopes.

Luckily it snowed the last couple days and so it was Winter Wonderland on the mountain. The slopes were in a perfect condition and although the weather wasn't the best, we had a lot fun. It was our first time skiing this year, but we enjoyed it so much. Around noon we had lunch at the Brantweineralm Ski Lodge and we both got the vegan potatoe leak soup, which was delicious. Later in the afternoon we stopped for drinks at another more modern ski lodge. There they also had alpacas and of course we had to see them too. A couple of rides later we called it a day and headed back to our apartment. There we had a glass of champagne, relaxed a bit and got ready for dinner. For the evening we had a reservation at restaurant Stamperl, where Claudia and I ordered a pizza and for dessert we got ice cream. Back at the apartment we had another glass of champagne and enjoyed a relaxed evening.

Katschberg 2023 - Part 2

Friday - January 20th 2023

Aparthotel Herbert is offering a bread service, which meant we could order our rolls the evening before in the next morning we could pick it up at Cafe Herbert, located on the ground floor. After we got up, I headed down and picked up our order, while Claudia prepared our breakfast. Once we cleaned up, we got ready for anothe skiday. The weather was slightly better than yesterday, but still windy and cold. For lunch we stopped at Gamskogel Ski Lodge, where we ordered fries and applestrudel. In the afternoon the crowds got smaller and so we enjoyed the empty slopes. Later in the afternoon the weather got worse and so we also headed back to the apartment. Back at the apartment we had a glass of beer and got ready for the evening. For dinner we went to Restaurant Lärchenstadl. Claudia got a Carinthian speciality called Kasnudln, a sort of dumpling, and I had a baked potatoe with veggies. Back at the apartment we had another beer and watched TV.

Katschberg 2023 - Part 3

Our last day started like yesterday. After we got up, I went down to Cafe Herbert to get our rolls and then we had breakfast. Before we hit the slopes again, we had to check out and put all our luggage into the car. Today the sun came out a little bit, but the wind was really strong and so some ropeways were closed. That meant skiing was only possible on the Katschberg side of the mountain. Due to the wind it was very cold, but we made the best out of it. At one point it got so cold, we decided to stop by at the Gamskogel Ski Lodge to get hot tea and a glass of beer. After we warmed up again, we hit the slopes again and around noon we had lunch at the same restaurant where we had dinner yesterday. Since we were really cold, we cut the day short and drove back to Salzburg.

Katschberg 2022 - Part 1

Claudia and I had never been on a skiing vacation together and so this year we decided to give it a try. We chose a small ski resort near Salzburg called Katschberg and booked a lovely hotel that offered a vegan menu as well. So Thursday early morning we hit the road and drove to Katschberg. Since it snowed heavily the days before the road leading to Katschberg was quite a challenge, because the road was still icey, but we barely managed to reach our hotel. The room wasn't ready yet and so we bought or ski tickets and conquered the slopes.

Unfortunately in the morning the weather wasn't that great yet, but it was expected that the sun will come out around noon. So we decided to have an early lunch. We both got fries and a beer and once the sky cleared we got on the slopes again. In the afternoon we skied to St. Marghareten on the other side of the mountain before returning to Katschberghöhe, the small village where our hotel was located. There we stopped at an outdoor bar next to the slope, where we got a couple of drinks while enjoying the sun and watching skiers going by.

When the sun went down we headed to our hotel, called Das Katschberg, and checked in. While filling in all the documents we got offered a complimentary prosecco. Finally we were in our beautiful room and unpacked our luggage. After we showered, we relaxed until it was time for dinner. Today the ski resort offered night skiing and of course we wanted to try that. So after dinner Claudia and I got in our ski clothes again and enjoyed some rides on the slope until we got really cold and headed back to our room.
