Canada & USA 2017 - Part 6

On The Way To Cedar Point

Friday - September 15th 2017

Our next stop on our road trip was Cedar Point, the roller coaster capital of the world. Right after breakfast we were on the way to Ohio. This was our longest distance to drive and around noon we arrived in Cleveland. Since we had visted Cleveland already ten years ago, we decided to skip it. So we just had lunch at a Whole Foods Market and bought some stuff at Trader Joe's. Afterwards we took a break at the Hard Rock Rocksino Northfield Park and then we hit the road again.

In the afternoon we finally arrived at Cedar Point and checked in into our hotel. There we stayed at the Cedar Point Express Hotel, a newly renovated hotel, which was just located a few minutes away from the amusement park. Staying at a Cedar Point resort hotel allowed us to enter the park in the evening, and on the next day we got an extra hour in the morning. After check in we headed to the park to make full use of our evening hours. The crowds were low and so we got to ride some of the biggest and most popular coasters without any crazy lines. On top of our list were Top Thrill Dragster, Millenium Force, Gatekeeper, and Cedar Point's newest addition Valravan. Thanks to our special offer we were able to ride them all.

Canada & USA 2017 - Part 7

Cedar Point - America's Roller Coast

Saturday - September 16th 2017

Claudia and I like to visit amusement parks, especially Disney, and this was already our third visit after 2007 and 2013. Since our package included an early entry into the park, we got up early and soon we were at the front gates. The crowds were still low and so it didn't take us very long to get inside. Our first stop was Millenium Force, one of the most popular coasters in the park. The coaster itself is a little bit scary due to its height and speed, but a lot of fun. Afterwards we headed to Valravn, Cedar Point's newest mega coaster. We rode it already yesterday, but it was so great that we had to do it again. Unfortunately many people had the same idea and so the queue was already 45 minutes long. We still got in line, because during the day the line would get longer than shorter. Afterwards it was time for an iced coffee at Starbucks, since it was getting really hot.

The crowds got bigger and bigger and so we decided to just walk around the park to take some pictures until noon. However the line at Twister was really short and so we got in line. Surprisingly that coaster was also a lot of fun. Around noon it was time for lunch and we wanted to try Melt Bar & Grill, because they had some vegan items on the menu. We just had to wait a couple of minutes and then we were seated. The food was totally fine for a themepark location. Later we left the park and returned to the hotel to get a break from the heat and the crowds. Since we did all the big and popular coasters already yesterday, we didn't mind leaving the park.

In the late afternoon we headed back to the park. The crowds we still big, but at least it wasn't as hot anymore and we even got to ride a few more attractions. First we did a small woodden coaster and then we got in line for Rougarou. The rest of the evening we spent at just strolling around enjoying the Halloween decorations. Before we left for good we had some drinks at an outdoor bar and we did maXair, another thrill ride that was a lot of fun.

United States 2013 - Part 7

Cedar Point

Saturday - September 7th 2013

In 2007 we had already been to Cedar Point and enjoyed that park a lot, especially the huge and fast coasters. Since we were basically around the corner, we decided to go there once again. Unfortunately the park was only open on weekends and on Saturday only from 1:00pm to 10:00pm. Nevertheless we got, thanks to our frinds, some discounted tickets from AAA and soon we were on our way to Cedar Point. After we arrived there, we got in line for the park opening. Our first ride was the Millenium Force. Since the crowds were big that day, we had to wait for one hour, however that ride was totally worth all the waiting time.

Next was Maverick and I didn't enjoy the ride as much as six years ago, since it was very bumpy and uncomfortable. Now it was time for a short break and so we had a glass of beer. Unfortunately due to safety reasons the park had to close down all the rides. Honestly I didn't understand that, because it wasn't even raining, just a few drops. I never experienced such a move in any other themepark, but we used the time to get some veggie dogs and fries.

Later we got in line for the newest park addition named Gatekeeper. What a fun ride! It was really smooth and enjoyable. We had one more ride on our To-Do list and that was the Top Thrill Dragster and so we queued. Again the park shut down all the rides due to some rain drops. Nevertheless we waited and an hour later the ride reopened. Now the real fun began, because they were facing technical problems and the coaster was shut down again. Again we waited in line, but they couldn't find the problem. So we waisted a lot of time there, but before we left the park we rode the Magnum XL coaster. Dispite those issues we had a lot of fun at Cedar Point.
