Island Tour
Tuesday - September 17th 2024
Today we got up early, because after breakfast the rental car company picked
us up from the hotel. At the office of Roig Rental Car in Cala D'Or we had to
fill in some documents and then we got our Hyundai Tucson for the next couple
of days. Once we checked the car for any damages we were on our way to
Cuevas Del Drach
located on the east coast of Mallorca. When we arrived we were among the first
guests to enter the caves. Cuevas Del Drach is famous for having one of the
largest underground lakes in the world. Unfortunately they allowed way too
many guests into the caves and so it was very crowded. Despite the crowds the
caves were really stunning and beautiful. At the end we were treated to a live
concert of classic music and that was really wonderful. Afterwards we
continued our island tour towards Manacor.

In Manacor we jsut strolled around the inner city, checked out some shops
and did a little bit of sightseeing. Although Manacor was a lovely little
town, there wasn't much to see and so we stopped at a nearby cafe for a
coffee. For lunch we wanted to get some snacks from the local supermarket,
but unfortunately we didn't find anything we liked and therefore we decided
to stop at McDonalds for fries before driving to our next stop. In the
afternoon we wanted to visit Cap Formentor, but we didn't know that the road
to the cap was closed due to the many tourists visiting the famous
lighthouse. The only possibility was to take the bus from the village, but
when we saw the huge crowds, we left and instead we drove to Cala Santa
Vincence for swimming.

When we arrived at Cal Santa Vincence, we were surprised how empty the village
was. Soon we realized the beach was closed due to the rough sea and therefore
it was too dangerous for swimming. So we just walked around and stopped at a
nice beach side cafe for drinks and ice cream. While enjoying our coffee
break, we made other plans for the rest of the afternoon and decided to drive
to Lluc Monestary located in the Serra de Tramuntana. The road through the
mountains was so beautiful and very scenic.

Afternoon Break |
About an hour later we arrived at
Lluc Monestary and were happy to
see that all the tourists had already left and we had the whole place for our
own. First we stopped at the coffee house for coffee and cake and then we
started exploring the beautiful monestary with its stunning church and amazing
surroundings. Behind the monestary was a little hill from where we had a
fantastic view over the valley. Then we returned to the car park and drove
back to our hotel in Cala D'Or, where we arrived an hour later just in time
for dinner. After dinner we walked into the village and ended our day with
sangrias at our favourite bar.
