California 2016 - Part 4

Leaving Las Vegas

Wednesday - May 25th 2016

Today we left Las Vegas and started our roadtrip. We got up early again, checked out and after a cup of coffee, we were on our way to the airport. There we picked up our rental car, a black Ford Focus. Before we left Las Vegas towards Lake Tahoe, we stopped at the local Whole Foods Market, bought water and fruits and got an early lunch from the Whole Foods hot bar. Before hitting the road we made one last stop at Ronald's Donuts to buy some delicious desserts.

Since we didn't want to drive the whole distance to Lake Tahoe at once, we decided to split it up into two parts. The first one was from Las Vegas to Bishop, California, and from there we drove to Lake Tahoe. On the way to Bishop we passed beautiful landscapes and the stunning Death Valley National Park. Claudia and I weren't in a hurry and so we took some breaks along the roads to enjoy the breathtaking scenery. Once we stopped at a wonderful little roadside cafe, the Ranch House Cafe in Olancha.

In the early afternoon we finally arrived in Bishop, a small but charming town. I don't know why, but most hotels and motels were fully booked and so we ended up in a small motel called Trees Motel. It looked nice from the outside, but our room was worn down and the shower was leaking the whole time. It was okay for one night, but I wouldn't want to stay there longer. Later we made a walk through the lovely town, got some beers from the supermarket and then we enjoyed our dinner, which we got at Vegas' Whole Foods Market. Before we went to bed, we watched TV and finished our beers in our room, because it started to rain.

California 2016 - Part 5

Visiting Lake Tahoe

Thursday - May 26th 2016

We checked out early and drove to the local coffee house to get the day started with a good and hot cup of coffee. Then we hit the road again and continued our journey towards Lake Tahoe. On the way we passed again beautiful landscapes and of course we had to stop several times for photos.

In the afternoon we arrived at Lake Tahoe and had lunch at a vegetarian cafe named Simple Bliss before we checked in into our hotel. Like in Las Vegas, we stayed again at the Hard Rock Hotel. After we got our lovely room with a wonderful view, we walked around the little city before we ended up at the Hard Rock Cafe for some drinks. In the evening we had dinner at the Stateline Brewery, which offered a very good veggie burger. Afterwards we took a walk to the lake and then we spent the rest of the evening strolling through the casinos and the village. Before we went to bed, we enjoyed a good night's drink at the hotel bar.
