A Weekend Full Of Wine - Part 1

A Weekend Full Of Wine

Friday - August 3rd 2012

Good friends of ours invited Caudia and me to spend a weekend together at their wine cellar in Lower Austria. Needless to say that we accepted the invitation and joined them in a weekend full of wine.

Friday morning we were on our way to the wine cellar and arrived there around noon. After unloading our car, we had lunch together. The weather was fantastic and so we ate outside in the wine garden. Of course we opened a bottle of wine and since we hadn't planned anything special for the afternoon, it wasn't the last one that day.

In the evening we had a reservation at our favorite vegetarian restaurant near Vienna. Unfortunately we had to drive there and so that meant one of us couldn't drink. A big thank you to our friend who offered to drive. All of us enjoyed a wonderful dinner and after some delicious ice cream, we returned to the wine cellar. Back home we opened another bottle of white wine. All in all we drank four bottles that day, which is not bad for four people.

A Weekend Full Of Wine - Part 2

More Wine

Saturday - August 4th 2012

On Saturday we decided to hike around the vineyards, but first we had breakfast and then we did some grocery shopping. We walked to a nearby look-out from where we had a great view over all the vineyards. After we paid a visit to the little village nearby, we got hungry and strolled back to the wince cellar. Usually red wine goes with pasta, but due to the hot weather we decided to have a cold white wine instead.

In the afternoon we drove to Grafenegg Castle where we visited the so called Vinothegg. That's some kind of bar where people can taste different wines from the area. For 6 Euros we could try six wines. The good thing was that we weren't accompanied by someone from the Vinothegg, instead we could try the wines on our own. But before the wine tasting we walked around the beautiful castle gardens.

Back at the wine cellar, we got ready for the evening and later we had dinner at a local wine tavern. After we returned, we opened another bottle and watched the thunderstorm in the distance.

Sunday - August 5th 2012

On Sunday after breakfast we cleaned the cellar, packed our belongings and soon we were on our way back to Salzburg.
