Shanghai Disneyland
Thursday - June 6th 2019
Today was our first full day at Shanghai Disneyland. We got up pretty early, because Disney Hotel guests were allowed into the park an hour before the regular opening times. On the way to the shuttle bus we stopped at Sunnyside Market to get an iced coffee and soon we were on our way to Disneyland. For the Extra Magic Hour we had to use a side entrance at Disneytown, which was really convenient, because Tomorrowland with Tron was just a short walk from there. Needless to say, once we were inside the park we headed straight to Tron. We heard so many fantastic reviews about the rollercoaster and we loved it too. It could have been a little bit longer, but the ride experience was a lot of fun. Unfortunately the line was already pretty long and so we didn't want to queue again, but we were able to get a fastpass for later.

After Tron we walked over to Fantasyland to get in line for Peter Pan's Flight, which wasn't really different compared to its cousins around the globe. Still it was a nice ride, but I felt that the one in Paris was better. Since Toy Story Land was just around the corner, we decided to to ride Rex Racer, also known as RC Racer at all other Toy Story Lands. And like at Disneyland Paris it was a lot of fun. Afterwards it was time for another ride with Tron since our fastpass was ready. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the best today, it was raining on and off, and so we just strolled through the shops on Mickey Avenue.

Since we hadn't had any breakfast yet, we went to Starbucks for coffee and a snack. On the way back to the park it started to rain heavily and so we decided to check out the stores in Disneytown. To be honest I was a little bit disappointed by Disneytown, because it was basically an outdoor shopping mall that had nothing to do with Disney. Luckily the rain stopped soon and we headed back to the park, where we managed to see the last floats of the parade. For lunch we went Tangled Tree Tavern and tried the only vegetarian dish on the menu. The vegetables with seitan in a sweet and sour sauce tasted okay, but we can't say if the meal was vegan. Unfortunately the rain started again and so we left the park to rest a little bit at the hotel.

In the afternoon we returned to the park. Once inside we walked to Adventure Isle, because our fastpass for Soaring over the Horizon was valid. Until now we had only experienced Soarin' Over California a couple of years ago at Disneyland Anaheim and Walt Disney World and we still like it better than Shanghai's new version. Afterwards we headed to Fantasyland to get dinner at Tangled Tree Tavern. On the way we noticed the short waiting time at The Many Adventured of Winnie the Pooh and so we got in line. It was a cute dark ride and a copy of the attractions found in the US parks. I wish Imagineering would have copied the superior version found at Tokyo Disneyland.

Finding anything vegan was almost impossible at Shanghai Disneyland and so we decided to eat at Tangled Tree Tavern again and just get plain rice with fries. It definitely was the saddest themepark meal I've ever had at Disney. Since the park was very crowded we hadn't planned anything else and after checking out some shops we were on our way to Shanghai Disneyland Hotel to get a couple of drinks. Although Shanghai Disneyland serves alcohol, the park lacks some nice places get a glass of beer or wine. At Disneytown there was also no nice bar and that's why we decided to go to the only real lounge and bar at the whole Disney resort. Bacchus Lounge at Shanghai Disneyland Hotel was indeed a lovely bar and after a couple of drinks we returned to our hotel.
