China 2019 - Part 11

Visiting Macao

Thursday - June 13th 2019

For today we planned to visit Macao, Asia's Gaming Capital which even puts Las Vegas to shame. After we got up and had breakfast, we took the subway to the ferry terminal on Hong Kong Island. First we had to get tickets, but soon we were on our way to Macao. The journey to the former Portuguese colony took about an hour. Most people on the ferry traveled to Macao to spend their time at the casinos, but we wanted to get a look at the city. While the majority headed to the casino shuttle buses, Claudia and I decided to take a walk from the harbour into the city. Our first stop was Teleferico Da Guia, a ropeway system that connects Jardim Da Flora with Parque Municipal De Colina Da Guia. From there we strolled through Macao towards the Ruins of St. Paul's. On the way we passed many buildings that still show the Portuguese influence.

Soon we arrived at the Ruins of St. Paul's, besides casinons the main attraction in Macao. Although only the front was remaining from the whole cathedral it was still pretty impressive. Since it was already noon, we decided to get something to eat. After taking some pictures we headed to a veggie restaurant called Veggie Castle near the Ruins of St. Paul's. It was a nice little restaunrant and to our suprise they offered the new vegan Impossible Burger. Needless to say I had to try the burger. Claudia got a salad and we both were very happy with our choices. After we finished our desserts we continued our sightseeing tour. Unfortunately it started to rain soon and so we stopped at the next Starbucks to escape the rain. Since it didn't look like that the weather was getting better again, Claudia and I spent the rest of the afternoon at the Grand Lisboa Casino. There we had some drinks at the bar until it was time to cathc the ferry back to Hong Kong. Luckily it stopped raining heavily and so we decided to walk back to the harbour instead of taking a taxi. Back in Hong Kong we got some snacks for dinner at the Marks & Spencer Food Hall and then we returned to out hotel.
