Madeira East

Our last tour was upon us. After breakfast we got picked up by the tour guide
and once we collected all other participants, we were on our way to Pico do
Arieiro, one of the highest mountains on Madeira. The landscape was amazing,
but it was very windy and cold up there. Then we hit the road again to drive
to Santana, a small village in the Narth East of Madeira. Along the way our
tour guide stopped at a beautiful Levada. It was just a short Levada walk, but
at the end we had a wonderful view over an amazing looking valley.

Around noon we arrived in Santana and Claudia and I decided to have lunch
first. Soon we found a restaurant, but the only vegetarian option was a pasta
dish with so much cheese on it. We both didn't like it. Then we just strolled
through the village and checked out the traditional triangular houses of
Santana. While those houses looked really nice, we expected more and were a
little bit disappointed that there wasn't much else to do.

In the afternoon we continued our tour to a rum distillery called
Engenhos do Norte. There we were able to see how rum was made and we even got to taste their
products. The rum itself was okay, but they also offered poncha and of course
we had to get a glass. Afterwards we were on our way to our last stop, most
North Eastern Part of the island, where Madeira looks completely different
than compared to the rest of the island with its rocky coast. In the late
afternoon we returned to Funchal and back at the hotel we spent the rest of
the day at the pool until it was time for dinner. Like the days before our
meals were delcious. Afterwards we enjoyed a quiet evening in the hotel.
