Vienna October 2023 - Part 1

Our October holiday time started with a short trip to Vienna. Claudia had to attend a meeting on Monday and so we decided we drive to Vienna already on Sunday and visit Veganmania, a festival celebrating plant based food. We arrived in the early afternoon at Austria Trend Hotel Doppio and once we had checked in, we took the tram into the city. There we headed directly to Veganmania to try all the different plant based food options.

Unfortunately the weather wasn't the best and when it started to rain we left and stopped at a nearby wine bar caled Wein & Co for a glass of wine. Later we left and headed to the Hard Rock Cafe for more drinks before getting plant based burgers at Swing Kitchen for dinner. Back at the hotel we chilled with a glass of wine in our room while watching TV.

Vienna October 2023 - Part 2

Monday - October 9th 2023

After breakfast Claudia was off to attend her meeting, while I headed into the city to visit the famous Albertina museum. There I got to see an exhibition about Michelangelo and a photo documentary about the United States. Both exhibitions were very interesting and after a couple of hours I left and stopped at shawarma place for lunch. I got a plant based shawarma and spent the rest of the time until I met Claudia again browsing through the shops along Vienna's largest shopping street. I also took a break at a lovely coffee house called Cafe Westend for a glass of beer. Once Claudia finished her meeting we drove back home to Salzburg.

Franz Fischer Lodge 2023

Franz Fischer Lodge

Saturday - September 2nd 2023

We are not the biggest hikers, but every now and then we enjoy hiking in the mountains. A couple of years ago the first only vegetarian Alpine lodge opened in the Austrian Alps and since it's just an hour away from Salzburg, we decided to give it a try. So Saturday morning we hit the road towards Zederhaus and from there we had to drive to Schliereralm, from where our tour started. First we had to tackle a steep incline and had to pass many cows, but the view along the way was a big reward. We still had to hike for a couple of hours, however the landscape with the mountains and small lakes was really beautiful.

In the early afternoon we finally arrived at Franz Fischer Hütte and since many other hikers were already enjoying the beautiful waether, we were lucky to get a table outside on the patio. Soon we ordered our drinks and food and then we waited to dig in. It didn't take long and the waiter brought our Gröstls, hearty, seasoned pan-fried potatoes with tofu. The food was delicious and of course we had to get a cake afterwards too. After we paid, we continued our tour back to Schliereralm. In the valley we followed a beautiful mountain river to Lake Schlierersee, where our car was parked. After that beautiful day in the mountains we drove home to Salzburg.
