Meryal Waterpark
Wednesday - Novermber 13th 2024
Claudia and I are big fans of theme- and waterparks and since Qatar is home to
Meryal Waterpark, we decided to give it a try. The park didn't open before 11:00am and so we
had plenty of time in the morning. We slept in and had a very relaxed
breakfast before hitting the road and driving to Lusail. There I wanted to see
the spectacular Raffles hotel that was shaped like a half moon. When we
arrived, we took a walk along the harbour and enjoyed the lovely weather.
Since we still had some time to kill, we got iced coffee at a nearby
Starbucks.

Around 11:00am we arrived at Meryal Waterpark, parked our car and soon we were
inside the park. First we changed into our swimwear and then we searched for
the perfect sunbeds at the beach. Once we settled we jumped right into the
sea. Then it was time to explore the park to see what it has to offer.
Unfortunately the so called Oil Rig Tower with its many different slides was
closed. So we got in line for the two huge rafting water slides in the main
park and both were a lot of fun. We got to ride some smaller slides too and
spent a lot of time in the wave pool. The whole park was themed after the oil
production, Qatar's main source of income.

For a late lunch we stopped at the International Food Court, the only
restaurant that was open today. We both ordered the vegetable biryani and
shared fries. To our surprise the food was really good. The rest of the
afternoon we kept exploring the many slides, all the different lazy rivers and
pool and just enjoyed sunbathing in the lovely weather. Meryal Waterpark was
such a beautiful park with so many different offerings. Of course there were
some letdowns as well. The most annoying one were the many closed restaurants
and attractions, but I guess that's what you get when visiting in the low
season. Still we had a lot of fun and would definitely return. In the late
afternoon we called it a day and left.

On the way back to Doha we stopped in Lusail again to visit the
Lusail Winter Wonderland, a fun fair themed after European Christmas Markets. Originally we planned
to get dinner there, but we didn't find anything vegetarian to eat and so we
left disappointed. The fun fair itself wasn't that great either, that's why we
drove to the nearby Place Vendome Mall to have dinner at Wagamama. Of course
we strolled through the shops as well before heading back to our hotel. There
we enjoyed a couple of beers at the outdoor hotel bar.
