Tauern Bike Trail II 2021 - Part 3

From Passau To Linz

Friday - August 27th 2021

Today was already our last day of our bike trip and we also left the Tauern Bike Trail since it ends in Passau. Now it was time for us to follow the Danube Bike Trail to Upper Austria's capital city Linz. After a very sad breakfast with just coffee and dry rolls, the hotel wasn't able to offer any vegan options, we left Germany behind. Soon we crossed the German Austrian border and continued our tour along the Danube. The trail was rather flat and the landscape quite beautiful and so we came along very quick. In Jochenstein at the hydro power plant we changed the side of the river and at the famous Schlögener Schlinge we had to catch a ferry, because due to the steep hills the bike trail came to an end.

Taking the Ferry

The scenery of the Schlögener Schlinge was really beautiful and the ferry ride made ist even more spectacular. Once we made it through the Schlögener Schlinge, we could continue by bike until we reached the small village of Untermühl. Since it was already noon we got hungry and stopped at a waterfront restaurant called Gasthaus Ernst for fries and a beer. Afterwards we had to take another ferry, because there was again no space for a bike trail at the river bank. The ferry took us to the other side of the Danube and there we cycled until we reached Aschach, where we met with my parents. We all got ice cream and then they joined us on our tour for a couple of kilometers. Before Claudia and I continued on our own again, we all had a beer at Thalhammers, a beautiful bar and restaurant in Feldkirchen. After we said our goodbyes to my parents we had about ten kilometers to go until we arrived in Linz. There we met with Claudia's parents for dinner at Front Food. A delicious vegan döner later we caught the train back to Salzburg.
