Movie Park Germany
Wednesday - October 14th 2020
Today after breakfast at Phantasialand we hit the road to visit the next
themepark on our tour. Just an hour north of Phantasialand was
Movie Park Germany. The park started as Warner Bros Movie World, named after the famous movie
studio in Hollywood, but eventually the park became Movie Park Germany.
Traffic was okay and we arrived on time just for park opening. Today was
rather cold, but nonetheless we were excited to experience another new
themepark. Once we were inside, we headed straight to Star Trek: Operation
Enterprise, one of the signature attractions of the park. The rollercoaster
was themed after Star Trek - The Next Generation and was a lot of fun with
some surprising moments. Besides the ride itself, the highlight of the
attraction was a replica of the bridge of the famous starship USS Enterprise
NCC-1701 D in the queue line.

Not all attractions were open yet and so we just walked around to check out
the park. Although Movie Park Germany was definitely not on the samel level
like Phantasialand or any Disney park, the themepark had some interesting
rides to offer. The next ride we got on was a disk ride, which was better than
it looked like. Finally all attractions were open by now and so we walked over
to Bandit, the park's huge wooden rollercoaster. Bandit might have been one of
the most bumpy and uncomfortable coasters I have ever been on. After that
hurtful ride we gave Van Helsing's Factory a try. That coaster was indeed
quite enjoyable. Since it was already noon, Claudia and I each ordered a
sandwich at Subway.

In the afternoon we checked out the more family friendly area of the park
called Nickland. There we got to ride a couple of smaller rollercoasters aimed
towards kids and families. The rest of the afternoon we spent strolling
through the shops and getting coffee at Dunkin Donuts. Before leaving the park
we got in line for Side Kick, our last ride for the day. Although Movie Park
Germany might not be among my favourite themeparks, we still had a great day
there and would definitely visit again. For tonight we had booked a room at a
Holiday Inn in Cologne, where we arrived an hour after we left the park. Once
we checked in, we had a glass of beer at the hotel bar and then we headed out
to get dinner at Burger King. Back at the hotel we enjoyed a nice and quite
evening in front of the TV.
