London 2024/25 - Part 4

New Year's Eve

Tuesday - December 31st 2024

And it's New Year's Eve again. Today we stopped at Lockdown Bakery for breakfast before taking the train to Waterloo Station. Like in the last years we did the exact same walking tour from Waterloo Station to Trafalgar Square and via The Mall to Buckingham Palace. From there we headed to Piccadilly Street to get a coffee at Starbucks. Along the way to Piccadilly Circus we came across Burlington Arcade with its James Bond pop up bar The 007. I'm a huge Bond fan and of course we had to get a glass of Bolliger Champagne. Timing was perfect, because today was the last day of the bar.

Afterwards we went to Fortnum & Mason to buy some jam, but we didn't get the ones we were searching for. So we continued our tour and in Soho we stopped for drinks at The White Horse pub. It has become a sort of tradition to go there on New Year's Eve while taking a walk around London. Like last year we had a reservation at Mildreds, a plant based restaurant, for a late lunch. We shared arancini as a starter and for our main course we both got a veggier burger with fries. The food was really good and after we paid we walked back to Waterloo Station, because the citty got so crowded due the New Year's Eve celebrations. At Waterloo Station we bought some snacks and sandwiches for later and then we took the train back to Wandsworth. There we had a couple of drinks at the Alma Pub until we returned to our room and enjoyed a quiet New Year's Eve watching TV and eating our snacks and sandwiches.

London 2024/25 - Part 5

New Year's Day

Wednesday - January 1st 2025

The new year started with an English breakfast at the hotel. Later we took the train to Waterloo Station and from there the metro to Hay's Galleria. There we just strolled around the area since most of the shops, pubs and coffee houses weren't open yet. Although there wasn't much to do, we enjoyed being there and admiring the architecture. From Hay's Galleria we walked along the River Thames to the Tower Bridge. London was so quiet in the morning and we enjoyed to have the city almost to our own. Unfortunately the weather got worse and it started to rain. So once we crossed the the river to the other side, we stopped at Starbucks near the Tower of London to escape the rain and get a coffee.

After a relaxing coffee we continued our walking tour along the River Thames. The rain got heavier and heavier and so we decided to have lunch at Wagamama next to St. Paul's Cathedral. The food was was really good, but the best part was to dry up while enjoying our lunch. Since the rain didn't stop, we took the bus back to Waterloo Station, where we did some shopping before returning to Wandsworth Town. Back at The Alma we relaxed a bit and then we headed to the pub to grab a couple of drinks. For dinner we headed to McDonald's and then we spent the rest of the evening in front of the TV watching The Great British Bake Off.

Flying Home

Thursday - January 2nd 2025

Today we slept in, because our flight didn't depart before the afternoon and so we had plenty of time to make it to the airport. After we got up, we headed down for our last breakfast at The Alma. Like before we got the full vegetarian breakfast and the avocado toast. Then we packed our luggage and once we checked out, we took the train and the Heathrow Express to the airport. There we dropped off our luggage and spent the time until departure at the lounge having lunch and drinks. Unfortunately our flight was delayed, but only for half an hour. Back in Munich we got snacks for dinner at a bakery and then we drove home to Salzburg.

Kaprun 2024 - Part 1

Kaprun

Friday - December 13th 2024

Our first ski trip of the season started Friday afternoon when we drove from Salzburg to Kaprun, a small village in the Austrian Alps. About one and a half hour later we arrived at our hotel for the weekend. We stayed at the Avenida Panorama Suites just outside of Kaprun and were really happy with our choise. Our room was rather small, but very nice with a modern look. After we checked in and dropped off our luggage in, we drove back to the village to find a restaurant for dinner. We decided to try Kennidi, a lovely pizza and burger restaurant. Claudia and I ordered the veggie burger and we were really happy with our choice. Afterwards we headed back to the hotel and enjoyed a relaxing evening in front of the TV.
