Dopplersteig 2023

Dopplersteig

For a very long time we wanted to try the so called Dopplersteig, a steep track up to Untersberg Mountain right next to the city of Salzburg. This year it was finally time and we took a day off from work and started our tour early morning. The path started flat in the wood, but soon it got steeper and steeper. Along the way to stopped for a couple of breaks since it was a little bit exhausting.

Once we left the forest it got even steeper and we were in the open sun, but luckily the temperature was still pleasant. The last part of the trail was the highlight because of the exposed stairs carved into the mountain. It was a little bit frightening since we were already pretty high up and right next to the steps it went down steeply. Finally around noon we made it to Zeppezauer Hut, where we ordered a delicous lunch and refreshing drinks. Afterwards we took the cablecar back to the valley.

Weinviertel 2023 - Part 1

It had become sorf of a tradition for us to attend the wine tasting of the Fürnkranz Winery in Lower Austria's wine region called Weinviertel. This year was no exception and Friday after work Claudia and I hit the road and drove to Großkadolz-Seefeld, where our hotel was located. We stayed at the JUFA Hotel Weinviertel, which was aimed more towards families, but thankfully it was quiet. Our room was very basic, but that was totally fine for a weekend trip.

Since we arrived late in the afternoon, we hadn't had anything to eat yet and so we headed out to Restaurant Weinstein at the Bischof Winery for dinner. The vegan food was delicious, especially the plant based dumplings. After dinner we stopped in Mailberg at the Hagn Winery to enjoy a glass of wine on the lovely sundeck while watching the sun go down. Back at the hotel we got another glass of wine before going to bed.

Weinviertel 2023 - Part 2

After we got up and had breakfast, which was inluded in our hotel package, we drove to Therme Laa. Along the way we stopped at a small supermarket to get drinks and snacks for our day at the pool. When we arrived, the spa was just opening and we changed into our swim clothes once we paid our entrance fee. Then we headed to the outdoor pool to get sun chairs in the shade. We spent a wonderful day at Therme Laa with drinks at the pool, sunbathing and relaxing in the warm water. For lunch we had fries at the outdoor bar and in the late afternoon we returned to our bed & breakfast to get ready for the evening.

In the evening we got picked up by the shuttle service for the Fürnkranz wine tasting, the main reason for our weekend trip. Once all guests arrived, the host invited us for a little tour through his wine cellar and vineyards. He explained how his wines are made and what his next expansion plans will be. Then the vegan buffet was officially opened and the wine tasting started. Like in the last years the plant based food was really delicious and we had a fantastic time enjoying this warm summer night while trying all the different wines.
