London 2011 - Part 3

London Eye And Greenwich

Thursday - September 1st 2011

Like everyday we took the train to Waterloo Station and from there we walked to the London Eye just across the railway station. We bought our tickets already back at home on the internet and had just to pick them up at the ticket office. We purchased Fast Track tickets and so we were the first in line. I'm glad we decided to buy those tickets, because the stand by line was already very long and the attraction wasn't even open. We boarded the first gondola and luckily the weather was fine to make good pictures. After 45 minutes the round trip was over and we did the 4D attraction which was included in the admission.

Then we were on our way to Canary Wharf, a very modern part of London with skyscrapers. There we had a cup of coffee at Starbucks, before we took the DLR Line to Greenwich. We walked to the Royal Observatory, where you can see the Prime Meridian, but we didn't go inside. Then we visited the Old Naval College to see where Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean - On Stranger Tides was filmed. After a quick visit to Greenwich Market, we had a beer in a pub and waited for our water taxi, which brought us back to the Tower of London.

Back at the Tower we had lunch at Wagamama again, since the food was really good, the portions were big and the price was reasonable. Afterwards we took the subway to Temple Bar and St. Paul's Cathedral, which was a fantastic building. We went inside the church, but unfortunately it was not allowed to take pictures.

Later we headed to Oxford Street to visit the Disney Store. I wanted to get a pin, but they only had one which I didn't like. A very friendly Castmember told me that they will get new ones on Saturday. So there was a reason to return.

So we went to Soho and had another beer and cider at the Clachan Pub. I really liked the atmosphere there, because after waork people were standing in front of the pubs and enjoyed their drinks and leisure time. Then we also walked to Carnaby Street and Chinatown. Dinner was at Maoz Falafel. The portions at Wagamama were so huge that we were still full and so Maoz was the right choice for us.

Unfortunately that evening the objective of our DSLR broke. I don't know what had happened, but the auto focus didn't work anymore. At least it was still possible to make pictures. After Chinatown we walked to Trafalgar Square and via Houses of Parliament to Waterloo Station. Back in the hotel we watched TV and plundered the mini bar.

London 2011 - Part 4

Our Last Full Day

Friday - September 2nd 2011

Today was our last full day in London. In the morning after a hearty breakfast we went to Buckingham Palace. We considered to go inside, but we didn't want to wait an hour and so we only checked out the shop. A friend of ours is a big fan of the Royal Family and so we got a Prince William and Kate Mug for her. Later we visited Harrods. The food hall was amazing and we liked the Egyptian design of the rooms.

Then we were on our way to Camden Markets, where we had lunch at Loving Hut, a vegetarian restaurant. Afterwards it was time to check out the huge market. It was very crowded and so we relaxed a bit in the Cuban Bar and enjoyed a glass of beer.

Since it was so warm we decided to return to the hotel to change our clothes. Later we took the train back to central London and just walked around the city. Now you can guess where we had dinner. Exactly, at Wagamama at the Tower of London, like yesterday and the day before. Our travel guide recommended the Blackfriars Pub and so after dinner we went there. We enjoyed a cold glass of beer and then we walked to the Millenium Bridge and via Tate Modern to the London Eye.

London 2011 - Part 5

Returning Home

Saturday - September 3rd 2011

Today we had to leave, but before we wanted to see the British Museum. We checked out after breakfast and soon we were on our way to the museum. It's really fantastic that nearly all museums in the United Kingdom are for free. Over here you have to pay, but sometimes students get in for free in some of the federal museums.

First we went to see the Egyptian exhibition and the mummies. The Syrian objects on display and the money exhibition were also very interesting.

It got really crowded and I was already angry about some of the other guests. I hate it when people don't follow the rules. What's so hard to understand that it is prohibited to touch the objects. So we got a cup of coffee in the huge museum hall and then we checked out the souvenir shop. Afterwards we had luch at Wagamama again and then we headed to the Disney Store, where I got a nice Monsters Inc. 10th Anniversary pin.

One last time at Wagamama

We bought some snacks at Marks & Spencer and returned to the hotel to pick up our luggage. Before we left we spent our last Pounds for a beer in the hotel pub. Since the subway was very crowded and delays were possible especially on the Piccadilly Line to the airport, we decided to take the Northern Line from Waterloo to Paddington and from there the Heathrow Connect train to Heathrow Airport.

Heathrow Airport

Our flight left at 8:00pm and we arrived in Munich around 11:00pm local time. Then we had to drive 90 minutes back to Salzburg. It was a wonderful, but exhausting journey with many highlights and we will definitely return to London.
