Ybbs to Tulln
Friday - September 18th 2026
Our second day started with breakfast before checking out and continuing our
journey towards Vienna. The weather was much nicer and warmer than yesterday
with the sun being out already in the morning. We were really happy about
that, because today we got to cycle through the
Wachau Valley, a UNESCO world heritage site and probably the most beautiful part of the
whole Danube Bike Trail. Along the way we passed so many wonderful sites, like
Melk Abbey, castles, vineyards or nice little villages until we reached the
samll town of Mautern. There we stopped at a supermarket to buy some snacks
for lunch.

Just outside of Mautern we found a quiet spot to take a break and eat our
lunch. Afterwards we hit the road again and unfortunately the scenery changed
quiet a bit from the lovely Wachau valley to a very flat landscape. So cycling
was rather boring for the next couple of kilometers until we reached
Zwentendorf, where we decided to take a break. Zwentendorf is famous for the
only Austrian
nuclear power plant that got
built, but never went operational due to a negative referendum. Next to the
power plant was
Bärendorfer Hütte, a quaint restaurant, where we stopped for drinks.

In the late afternoon we finally arrived in Tulln, where we stayed at the
Best Western Hotel. First we checked in, then we showered and refreshed before heading out
again. Nearby a wine festival was happening and of course we had to check it
out. We got a couple of drinks and a grilled flatbread while enjoying the
festival until it was time for dinner at a pizza restaurant called
La Morra. Although it was located in a shopping mall, the pizzas tasted really good.
Before heading back to the hotel we stopped at an ice cream shop and just
strolled around the main plaza. Back at the hotel we called it a day and
watched TV.
