Rhine River Cruise 2014 - Part 3

Visiting A Vineyard

Thursday - August 21st 2014

Today we had to get up very early, because at 6:00am we were passing the famous Loreley, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Although it was very cold and very early in the morning, we got up and went up to the sun deck. There the waiters served a Loreley cocktail. Despite the early hour we tried one, but we didn't finish it. Alcohol before coffee was just too much, even for us.

After the passing we returned to our cabin and slept for another hour. Then it was finally time for the breakfast buffet. They offered a huge selection of cereals, fruits, juices, rolls, spreads, baked beans, vegan cheeses, vegan meats, teas and of course coffee.

After breakfast the ship arrived in Rüdesheim. We booked a tour to a vineyard and the bus was already waiting. At the winery the owner explained how wine is made and of course we got to taste some samples.

Around noon we had to return to the ship, where lunch was served after we departed Rüdesheim. Today they served a soup and a stuffed bell pepper. We spent the rest of the day on the sun deck watching the landscape and enjoing a couple of drinks. As I already mentioned, cruises are also about eating all the time, we had to attended a dessert buffet in the Amadeus Lounge in the afternoon.

A few hours and a couple of drinks later, it was already time for dinner and another five course meal awaited us at the bord restaurant. We shared the table with the same couple again and enjoyed a lovely evening.

First Course - Salad

Second Course - Creamy Cress Soup

Third Course - Vegetable Kebap

Fourth Course - Vienna Schnitzel

Fifth Course - Panna Cotta

Afterwards we returned to the sun deck to watch the passing of the lock of a river power plant. Later we walked back to our cabin and went to bed.
