Stockholm 2017 - Part 2

Our First Full Day In Stockholm

Saturday - August 12th 2017

Since breakfast was included in our hotel rate, we headed down to the reataurant after we got up. Then we strolled down to the waterfront, because for today we had planned to do a boat tour around Stockholm. There are many tours to chose from and we opted for the Royal Canal Tour that showcased the green side of the city. The boat tour lasted for about an hour and we got to see some beautiful parks.

Back in the city we walked to the City Hall, where the annual Nobel Prize Gala is held. Unfortunately the crowds were very big, we decided against a tour through the famous building. So instead we were on our way to Gamla Stan, Stockholm's Old Town. There we checked out the little shops, gut a snack at a vegan bakery and then we relaxed from the crowds at a nice Irish Pub.

After we discovered the rest of Gamla Stan, we took a walk along one of Stockholm's shopping streets and then we had an early dinner at a vegan Italian restaurant. The rest of the afternoon we spent at the Hard Rock Cafe until it was time to return to the hotel.

Stockholm 2017 - Part 3

Vasa Museum And Gröna Lund

Sunday - August 13th 2017

Today we got up early to avoid the crowds at the Vasa Museum. A nice side effect was that the restaurant was also rather empty and quiet during breakfast. When we arrived at the museum, there was no line at all and soon we had our tickets. The Vasa Museum was high on my list and it was definitely worth a visit. The museum is about an old Swedish ship that sank in the 17th century during its maiden voyage just after leaving the harbour. In the 1960s the ship was lifted and restored for many years. 95% of the ship are still original and even after all those years in the muddy waters, the ship looks still impressive. In the morning we had the museum nearly for our own, but an hour later large tour groups invaded the museum and so we got a coffee at the museum cafe and then we left.

Stockholm is also home to a small but lovely amusement park called Gröna Lund and of course we had to visit the park, which reminded me of Tivoli in Copenhagen. Although it was not as beautiful as its Danish cousin, we had a lot of fun there and even rode a rollercoaster. For lunch we got a delicious vegan burger with fries. Unfortunately the weather got worse and so we decided to get a beer at a bar until the rain was gone. Afterwards we just walked around the park until it was time to leave. Back at the hotel we relaxed a bit and then we went to O'Leary's, a cool sports bar, for dinner and some beers.

Our Last Day In Stockholm

Monday - August 14th 2017

For today we hadn't planned anything special and so after breakfast we walked to the waterfront again, and from there to Kastellholmen, small island. Since there wasn't anything to do, we just strolled around and then we went to Gamlan Stan. There we bought some souvenirs and got a drink at our favourite Irish pub. Before it was time to return to the hotel, we had lunch at Hermitage, another vegetarian restaurant in Stockholm. Unfortunately afterwards it was time to say goodbye. We headed back to the hotel, picked up our luggage and checked out. Arlanda Express brought us back to the airport, where we spent the time until departure in the international zone. In the evening we were back in Munich and after a two hours drive we finally arrived back home in Salzburg.
