Flying Home

 

Thursday - January 2nd 2025

 

Today we slept in, because our flight didn't depart before the afternoon and so we had plenty of time to make it to the airport. After we got up, we headed down for our last breakfast at The Alma. Like before we got the full vegetarian breakfast and the avocado toast. Then we packed our luggage and once we checked out, we took the train and the Heathrow Express to the airport. There we dropped off our luggage and spent the time until departure at the lounge having lunch and drinks. Unfortunately our flight was delayed, but only for half an hour. Back in Munich we got snacks for dinner at a bakery and then we drove home to Salzburg.

Kaprun 2024 - Part 1

Friday - December 13th 2024

Our first ski trip of the season started Friday afternoon when we drove from Salzburg to Kaprun, a small village in the Austrian Alps. About one and a half hour later we arrived at our hotel for the weekend. We stayed at the Avenida Panorama Suites just outside of Kaprun and were really happy with our choise. Our room was rather small, but very nice with a modern look. After we checked in and dropped off our luggage in, we drove back to the village to find a restaurant for dinner. We decided to try Kennidi, a lovely pizza and burger restaurant. Claudia and I ordered the veggie burger and we were really happy with our choice. Afterwards we headed back to the hotel and enjoyed a relaxing evening in front of the TV.

Kaprun 2024 - Part 2

Kitzsteinhorn

Saturday - December 14th 2024

After we got up we headed downstairs for breakfast before packing our stuff and driving to the ski resort. First we had to get our tickets and then it was time for our first skiing day of the season. For today we chose the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier Ski Resort about 3000 metres above sea level and therefore it guarantees snow reliability from October to May. Unfortunately the weather wasn't good, but we made the best out of it. At least thereweren't too many guests and so the slopes weren't crowded at all. When the snowfall got heavier we decided to check out the Top of Salzburg attraction and to get a drink at the restaurant.

Although the ski resort isn't the biggest, it still offers plenty of possibilities for all kinds of skiing skills. Since the slopes are very high up in the mountains the winds can get pretty strong since there are no trees to protect us. Luckily the weather got better and we headed out again. Later we stopped at the Alpincenter Restaurant for lunch. Claudia and I only got a snack, a soup and a pizza. In the afternoon we called it a day and took the cable back to the valley.

Since we only had a snack for lunch, we stopped at McDonald's for a McPlant with fries and a Coke. Then we did some shopping in Zell am See before driving back to our hotel. There we relaxed a bit and got ready for the evening. First we enjoyed a couple of drinks at the beautiful Weitblick Lounge in Kaprun and then we had dinner at the same restaurant like yesterday. Back at the hotel we enjoyed a relaxing evening in front of the TV.

Schmittenhöhe

Sunday - December 15th 2024

Today we decided to try the other ski resort called Schmittenhöhe, but first we had breakfast and had to check out. Once we settled the bill we drove to Zell am See and parked the car at the Areit Express cable car station. After we purchased our tickets we were on our way up to the slopes. Schmittenhöhe is much bigger ski resort than Kitzsteinhorn and therefore offers many more slopes. Unfortunately the weather was not as good as we hoped for, because it was snowing a lot in the morning. So we stopped at the next hut for coffee and cake and hoped for better weather.

Luckily the snowfall stopped and we kept on skiing until the afternoon, except for a quick break to have a snack. Even the sun came out and we had a great time exploring the huge ski resort. Not all cable cars were open yet, but there were still plenty of lifts and slopes to discover. In the late afternoon we drove back to Salzburg and enjoyed a quiet evening.

Qatar 2024 - Part 1

Munich Airport

Friday - November 8th 2024

Our next was vacation was upon us and so Friday after work we drove to Munich Airport, where we stayed for one night at Novotel, since our flight to Doha left in the morning. After we checked in, we took the bus to the terminal to find something for dinner. We ended at Oliva and got a plant based döner, which was just okay. Then we bought some magazines for the flight and returned to the hotel, where we enjoyed a glass of wine before heading back to the newly renovated room.
