Copenhagen
Thursday - June 3rd 2022
After we got up, we had breakfast at the hotel, which was okay, but not really
worth the price in our opinion. Later we decided to take a walk around the
city to Amalienborg Castle, the official residence of the Danish Royals. The
castle wasn't as impressive as, for example Buckingham Palace, but it was
still a must see for us. Then we continued our walk and headed to Kastellet, a
fortress that protected Copenhagen from intruders. Since the fortress is still
used by the military, we weren't allowed to go wherever we wanted to, but
Kastellet was nonetheless quite impressive. Our next stop was the world famous
Little Mermaid statue. During our last visit in 2010 the mermaid was in
Shaghai at the World expo, but this time we finally got to see her. To our
surprise the Little Mermaid was rather samll, however we enjoyed our time
there.

On our way back to the inner city we stopped at a bar right next to the
harbour and enjoyed a glass of beer while watching the boats go by. Since it
was already noon, we got hungry and searched for a snack. Claudia and I
found a nice bagel bar, where we both ordered a falafel bagel. The bagels
were delicious and so it was no surprise that it wasn't our last visit to
that chain restaurant. After lunch we got a coffee at the roof top terrace
at the Illum Department Store from where we had a wonderful view over
Copenhagen.

In the afternoon we continued our sightseeing tour through Copenhagen with a
stop at the lovely Green Island Bar. There we relaxed from our long walks
with an ice cold glass of beer. After exploring the more modern area of
Copenhagen we headed back to Nyhavn, but had to stop at falafel bar for
dinner. Back in the inner city we checked out Nyhavn, where we had another
drink before returning to the hotel.
