Dublin 2017 - Part 3

Celebrating My Birthday

Sunday - March 12th 2017

Today was my birthday and for that occasion we had planned to visit the Guinness St. James Gate Brewery. So right after breakfast we were on our way. We had already purchased the tickets online for the early morning entry when it wasn't so crowded. The exhibition was very interesting, but after visiting the Heineken Brewery in Amsterdam and several breweries in Austria, we knew alsready the basics of brewing. For me the most interesting parts were the history of Guinness, the advertising and the great architecture of the Guinness Storehouse. Of course we got to taste the beer too. At first we got a small sample in the tasting room, and at the end of the tour we got a pint at the Gravity Bar on top of the brewery. From there we had a fantastic view over Dublin. What a great way to celebrate a birthday.

Around noon we left the brewery, because we had a lunch reservation at Sova - Vegan Butcher. Since we were a bit early, we walked into another pub until our table was ready. Claudia ordered a burger and I got the seitan doner kebap. Both meals were delicious and since it was my birthday, we had to get some desserts too. So we got mousse au chocolat and a lime cheesecake in a jar.

In the afternoon we wanted to visit the St. Patrick's Cathedral, but due to a ceremony it was closed to the public, and so we decided to see St. Stephen's Green instead. St. Stephen's Green was a very beautiful park and very popular among Dubliners. Unlike in Austria the shops are open on Sundays in Ireland and so we checked out the department stores. On the way back to the hotel we stopped at the Hard Rock Cafe for a birthday beer and afterwards at The Rolling Donut to get some vegan treats. Back at the hotel we relaxed a bit. In the evening we wanted to go out again to get a drink at a nearby pub, but after a short walk we returned and spent the rest of the evening at the hotel bar.
