London 2016 - Part 1

Going To London

Thursday - April 7th 2016

Last year my father in law celebrated his 60th birthday and his present was a trip to London. Claudia and I have been to London several times and so we organized the whole trip. Our easyjet flight departed from Munich early morning and after an uneventful two hours flight, we arrived at London Gatwick airport. After immigration we collected our luggage and soon we were on board the Gatwick Express to London Victoria. There we bought our Oyster Cards and then we headed to Wandsworth. Like during our last trip to London, we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express again, because it was easy to reach, it offered free breakfast, the emplyees were very friendly and the rooms were fine and very clean.

After we checked in, we took the train back into the city, where we got off at Waterloo Station. Unfortunately the weather was bad, it rained heavily, we decided to have a welcome drink at The Admiralty pub near National Gallery. Luckily the clouds cleared and we strolled around the inner city. From the National Gallery we headed to Piccadilly Circus and from there to Leicester Square. Before we returned to Wandsworth we had an early dinner at Chipotle and walked along The Mall to Buckingham Palace. Back in Wandsworth we got some snacks and later we had some drinks at the hotel bar.

London 2016 - Part 2

Camden Lock Market

Friday - April 8th 2016

After a lovely breakfast with coffee, rolls, baked beans and fruits we took the train to Waterloo and from there the subway to Camden Town. Visiting the Camden Lock Market is a Must Do for us during every London trip and this one was no exception. First we just walked around the shops and food stands, but later we relaxed with a beer at The Cuban Bar. Around noon we got some meals from the food stands, we tried Ethiopian and Columbian food, and for dessert we had a vegan ice cream milk shake from Cookies and Scream. Afterwards we left the Camden Lock Market and took the metro to Covent Garden.

Before we returned to the hotel, we visited St. Paul's Cathedral, and from there we took a walk along the river Thames to Waterloo Station. There we got some sandwiches and snacks from Pret A Manger for dinner. Back at the hotel we refreshed a bit and then we spent the rest of the evening at The Alma Pub.

Natural History Museum

Saturday - April 9th 2016

For today we had planned to visit the Natural History Museum and after breakfast we were on our way. We had already been there last year, but we enjoyed it so much and so we decided to go there again. Not only looks the museum itself stunning, the exhibtions are also fantastic and very interesting. Since it was a Saturday the museum got very crowded and that's why we left around noon for lunch at 222 Veggie Vegan.

On our way to Canary Wharf we stopped at the beautiful Blackfriar Pub for a drink. A refreshing beer later we were on our way again. At Canary Wharf we just strolled around before taking the DLR to Greenwich. There we took a wlk to the Old Royal Naval College. Since it was already early evening, we decided to get some sandwiches for dinner and headed back to Wandsworth, where we spent a nice evening at The Alma Pub again.
