Stockholm 2017 - Part 1

It's Time For Another Shorttrip

Friday - August 11th 2017

August 15th is an official holiday here in Austria and so we took Monday and Friday off to take a break and to travel to Sweden. Friday morning we drove to Munich airport from where our Lufthansa flight to Stockholm departed. Some traffic jams later we finally arrived at the airport and headed straight through security. Since we had some time to kill we got an early lunch at the Hans Im Glück Burger Grill restaurant until it was time for boarding. An uneventful flight later, we landed at Stockholm airport. There we caught the Arlanda Express train, it connects the airport with the city, and twenty minutes later we were in Stockholm.

On the Way to Stockholm

For our stay in Sweden's capital city we booked the Mornington Hotel, which was located in the Östermalm area of Stockholm. Once we arrived there, we checked in, dropped off our luggage in our room and refreshed a bit before checking out the city. Our room wasn't very big, but it was very comfortable.

At a nearby bar we enjoyed a welcome drink and then we were on our way to a very cool vegetarian restaurant called Hermans. The restaurant has a very lovely outdoor seating area that provides a fantastic view over the cruise harbour, and we were lucky enough to get a table right at the edge. The outdoor seating area alone is worth visiting the restaurant, but the vegan food tops that easily. On weekends the restaurant offers a BBQ in addition to the buffet. All I can say is that I enjoyed every minute there. The food was delicious, the weather was perfect and the atmosphere was just wonderful. After that delicious dinner we walked down to the cruise port where we got two beers at a beautiful bar. On our way back to the hotel we stopped at a supermarket to buy a vegan Cornetto and some beers for the evening.

Stockholm 2017 - Part 2

Our First Full Day In Stockholm

Saturday - August 12th 2017

Since breakfast was included in our hotel rate, we headed down to the reataurant after we got up. Then we strolled down to the waterfront, because for today we had planned to do a boat tour around Stockholm. There are many tours to chose from and we opted for the Royal Canal Tour that showcased the green side of the city. The boat tour lasted for about an hour and we got to see some beautiful parks.

Back in the city we walked to the City Hall, where the annual Nobel Prize Gala is held. Unfortunately the crowds were very big, we decided against a tour through the famous building. So instead we were on our way to Gamla Stan, Stockholm's Old Town. There we checked out the little shops, gut a snack at a vegan bakery and then we relaxed from the crowds at a nice Irish Pub.

After we discovered the rest of Gamla Stan, we took a walk along one of Stockholm's shopping streets and then we had an early dinner at a vegan Italian restaurant. The rest of the afternoon we spent at the Hard Rock Cafe until it was time to return to the hotel.
