Liechtensteinklamm And Salzachöfen

Since the weather forecast was good, we made a trip to the
Liechtensteinklamm
(Liechtenstein Gorge). The gorge is located in Sankt Johann im Pongau 50km
south of Salzburg in the Austrian Alps. It is around four kilometres long and
named after Johann II of Liechtenstein who had the walkways installed in 1875.

We arrived at the gorge around 10am and after we purchased our tickets we were
on our way. It takes about one and a half hour to walk through the gorge.
Luckily we started our tour early, because it got more and more crowded when
we walked back.

At the end of the Liechtenstein Gorge there is a beautiful waterfall called
Bridal Veil Falls. There we made a break and enjoyed our rolls for lunch.
After taking some pictures we hiked back to our car.

Since we didn't want to drive back home on the highway, we chose a scenic
route along the Salzach River instead. Suddenly we recognized a sign about the
Salzachöfen
(Salzach Gorge) and so we decided to stop there. It turned out to be a very
nice place with a chappel, some memorials and a restuarant.

Before we hiked through the gorge, we finished our rolls while sitting on a
bench an enjoying the fantastic view and then we had a Radler, a mixture of
beer and lemonade, at the restaurant located at the entrance.

The Salzachöfen were smaller than the Liechtensteinklamm, but it was a
wonderful walk and definitely worthy to stop there.

In the afternoon we returned to Salzburg and enjoyed a beer at the
Augustiner Bräu. Unfortunately it started to rain and after two beers we walked back home.
